HYPERFLY’s New Gentle Art Gi and Magnum Kimono Are Heavyweight Works Of Art

Premium kimono brand HYPERFLY just launched two new heavyweight gis, The Gentle Art gi and the Magnum. The first is a one-time drop but part of a The Gentle Art collection, which leaves the door open for future limited releases.

The latter will be added to the brand’s staple gi collection, with future restocks, colorways, and updates on the horizon. The addition of a 550gsm gi to their line closes the space between their mid-weight offerings like the Premium, ProComp, and Icon, and their ultra-heavyweight 750gsm JudoFly.

The HYPERFLY Gentle Art Gi

The Gentle Art gi pays homage to the essence of the martial art of jiu-jitsu. The ability to subdue an opponent without inflicting damaging strikes was the key principle behind the fight style that later became known as “the gentle art.” As any practitioner knows though, BJJ is anything but gentle. That’s why this gi is made from a tough 550gsm gold weave with reinforced stitching. It’s on the heavier side of the gi weight spectrum and built for repeated bouts of intense training.

The Gentle Art Gi is as beautiful as it is functional. Its soft-brushed weave makes it noticeably soft and broken-in right out of the bag. The high-density embroidery down the wearer’s sleeve is crisp and in beautiful contrast to the gi’s main color. Speaking of color, the Gentle Art Gi is available in white with black labeling and emerald green with gold labels.

The phrase “Art Is The Triumph Over Chaos” is repeated on the wearers right sleeve and left leg, and ties in the beauty and superiority of technical jiu jitsu over unorganized, spastic brute force. Although this gi is not IBJJF legal, it’s truly a piece of art that will withstand years of fierce battle in the gym.

The Gentle Art collection also includes two long sleeve t shirts, available in black and white, and a 5 panel lightweight nylon training cap.

The HYPERFLY Magnum Gi

The power of Hyperfly’s newest staple gi is reflected in its name – The Magnum. Strong, durable, bold, heavy. These are the qualities that represent the Magnum gi. Like the Gentle Art gi it has the same 550gsm weight and soft-brushed finish but where as the Gentle Art gi is limited edition, the Magnum means business and is here to stay.

The brand describes the Magnum as “engineered like a JudoFly, feels like a Hyperlyte.” Translated that means this gi is built tough but comfortable and less hefty than the monster that is the JudoFly. The sleeve and pant cuffs include four to 10 stitches for extra reinforcement and grips your opponent won’t enjoy. There is also an extra crotch reinforcement made of the same gold weave material and a 10 oz twill liner across the bottom of the jacket skirt.

Oversized branding is stitched with high-density embroidery at the left arm and right leg, and are in the retro HYPERFLY font that the brand used years back. The pants are 10 oz cotton twill and feature an internal drawstring.

Although this one isn’t IBJJF approved, The Magnum gi is a juggernaut made for those who go hard. It’s available in white or black, both with “Loki Green” branding.
